The Libido Conversation Nobody Has With You

Somewhere between the school run, the job, the relationship, and everything else you are carrying, desire quietly went missing.

Maybe you noticed months ago. Maybe you are only noticing now, reading this. Either way, you have probably wondered if it is you. It is not just you, and it is not a personal failing.

Changes in desire and intimacy are one of the least discussed parts of perimenopause, not because they are rare, but because almost nobody brings them up. Not friends over coffee. Not GPs in an eight minute appointment. Not even partners, who are often just as confused as you are. Emerging research suggests fluctuating hormone levels during this transition can affect desire, arousal, and how comfortable sex physically feels, alongside the very real effects of disrupted sleep, mood changes, and simple exhaustion. All of it is connected, and none of it means anything is wrong with you or your relationship.

What it can look like

Desire that used to come easily now needs more space and time. Feeling touched out by the end of the day. Sex that used to feel straightforward now feeling uncomfortable or effortful. A sense of disconnect from your own body, not just from your partner. These are common experiences during this transition, not signs of a failing relationship.

Why the silence makes it worse

When nobody talks about this, women assume they are the only ones, or that it says something about their marriage, their attractiveness, their age. The silence adds shame to something that is already hard to name. Naming it, even just to yourself, takes some of that weight off.

What might help

There is no single fix, and anyone offering one is not being straight with you. But understanding what is happening, tracking patterns rather than guessing, and having language to describe it, to a partner, a coach, or a doctor, tends to make the biggest difference of all.

Where NOW For Women comes in

If this is something you are navigating, our Wellness Assessment can help you understand what is showing up for you and why, built around you rather than a generic checklist. From there, a Report Review Session with one of our certified coaches gives you a space to talk it through honestly, without judgement and without a clock ticking on an eight minute appointment.

You deserve a real conversation about this. Consider this one the start.
